Young internet poker players often use the WSOP as a stage to introduce their poker skills to the world, and old pros use the WSOP to cement their legend. Here are a couple of players to watch in the 2008 WSOP. Gavin Griffin Young Gavin Griffin – known as “Wsop2005” on various on various – is hardly new to tournament poker. He splashed onto the scene in 2004 by winning a pot-limit hold’em bracelet at the WSOP. Since then, he consistently cashed in event after event, including a cash in limit hold’em at the 2005 WSOP and two cashes at the 2006 WSOP. Over the last year, Gavin has really heated up, and is poised to have his best WSOP performance ever. Gavin cashed in the 2007 L.A. Poker Classic and finished third at the WSOP Circuit event at Rincon. He followed that up with a win in the 2007 European Poker Tour Grand Final Championship, netting over $2 million. After another series of cashes, he won the World Poker Tour 2008 Borgata Winter Open for over $1.4 million. David Pham David “The Dragon” Pham is another player who is always a WSOP threat. He has geared up for the WSOP by first winning the $2,500 no-limit hold’em event of the Five Diamond World Poker Classic in Las Vegas. He followed that up with a fourth place finish in the 2008 PokerStars.net Caribbean Adventure and continued his roll with three cashes in the L.A. Poker Classic this year. |
